Neonatal Intensive Care

The Neonatal Unit serves Liverpool and the surrounding area, it has 52 cots, 16 of which are designated for intensive care of the newborn, 18 for high dependency, 14 low dependency care and 4 transitional care making it one of largest units of it's kind in Britain.

The Unit offers care for up to 1000 babies and their families per year. On the Neonatal Unit we ensure the whole family is included in the care and decision making of their baby in order to provide family centered care of the highest quality and in accordance with the Neonatal Unit's Philosophy of Care.  Philosophy of Care [PDF].

On the unit we have introduced Baby Link this is a website created especially for the parents of babies on the Neonatal Unit. The pages contain information about the    Neonatal Unit and the care and treatment babies receive there. It is hoped by using Baby Link, parents will gain a better understanding of their baby's condition and feel more able to be involved in the decisions made in his/her treatment.

Included in Baby Link is Baby Diary this is a series of letters and photos written to parents by nursing staff, these diary entries will help parents and family follow the progress of  their babies. Parents have access to Baby Diary via a password.
