Getting ready for the birth
Try to pack a bag a few weeks before you are due to give birth.
You will need to include for yourself -
-
Nightwear- thin and cool, remember the hospital will be warm. If you are intending to breastfeed, nightwear with front fastening is ideal.
-
Nursing bra and breast pads if you intend to breastfeed.
-
Dressing gown or cardigan
-
Several pairs of large knickers
-
Toiletries
-
Large towel and hand towel
-
Slippers or equivalent
-
Sanitary pads (you will be issued with one pack by the hospital but you need to then supply your own)
-
Change for the phone (you can purchase a phonecard for the phone by your bed)
-
Day clothes if you wish.
-
Personal stereo / favourite music, if you wish, for during your labour.
For your baby -
-
The hospital will supply sheets, blankets and if required baby milk
-
Cotton wool
-
Nappies
-
Baby clothes, for example vests x 3, sleepsuits x 3
Plan the route to the hospital, arrange who will take you and how. This will reduce any worries you may have when the time comes.
Arrange who will care for any other children you may have.
