Family Planning

The Mersey Region Group for Family Planning Training was formed in 1978 and since then has been active in providing Basic Training Courses in Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care three times per year.

The Group provides a core of expertise regularly and are involved in updating days in all aspects of reproductive health, e.g. The Menopause, Sexual Health, Adolescent Health Needs, Infertility and Psychosexual Problems. It has always been the policy to retain the region-wide representation of The Group and it was unanimously agreed that this should continue.

This will ensure that essential training needs can be met regardless of changes in policy and personnel. The Group comprises of Doctors who are involved with postgraduate training in family planning and reproductive health care. All of whom are Instructing Doctors of The Faculty of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care.

They include all the region’s budget holders from the community family planning services, General Practitioners with a special interest in family planning and others representing special related skills (cytology, colposcopy, G.U. Medicine, psychosexual counselling and young people).

Carmel Farrell was appointed as Course Manager in 1994 and Paula Hampson was subsequently appointed as secretary in 1996 and they are both based in The Liverpool Womens Hospital.

Carmel and Paula can be contacted between the hours of 9.15a.m. - 3.15p.m. Monday to Friday, - there is an answerphone outside these hours, though Carmel can be contacted by mobile on 0973-865349
