It is a branch of medicine which specialises in the provision of advice and treatment for people who:Are worried about infections which may be spread by sexual intercourse. Have other conditions affecting their genital organs. Are worried about HIV and AIDS. |
Who comes to the GU Medicine unit ? |
Women, married or single,
of any age attend the department to receive free confidential, professional
advice and treatment. - Occasionally
symptoms affecting other parts of the body. - A check-up
to ensure the absence of an infection ( At any time but particulary
after sexual assault.) - Partner has
an infection - A check-up
before entering into a new relationship - HIV test - Or just to obtain information and advice - There is
also a Rape Centre to give help and advice |
What happens at the GU Medicine unit ? |
You will be called to see the doctor who will ask questions about medical and sexual history before suggesting the appropriate examination and tests to be carried out. |
