Genito Urinary Medicine
The clinic exists to provide appropriate treatment for women referred with sexually transmitted diseases. Its work includes counselling and testing for HIV infection.Referrals are received from General Practitioners, Obstetricians, Gynaecologists, Police Surgeons, other medical and drug dependency staff. Out-patient care is provided with access to day and in-patient care when required.

Appropriately qualified medical and nursing staff are available at the clinic

Cervical Smear Testing
Colposcopy and Outpatient Treatment for CIN

What is Genito-urinary Medicine ?
It is a branch of medicine which specialises in the provision of advice and treatment for people who:Are worried about infections which may be spread by sexual intercourse. Have other conditions affecting their genital organs. Are worried about HIV and AIDS.
Who comes to the GU Medicine unit ?

Women, married or single, of any age attend the department to receive free confidential, professional advice and treatment.
Discomfort or worries which could be caused by symptoms such as:-

- Spots, rashes, itches, ulcers or discharges from the penis or vagina.

- Occasionally symptoms affecting other parts of the body.

- A check-up to ensure the absence of an infection ( At any time but particulary after sexual assault.)

- Partner has an infection

- A check-up before entering into a new relationship

- HIV test

- Or just to obtain information and advice

- There is also a Rape Centre to give help and advice

We provide a completely confidential service, people are referred by their family doctor or other specialist.

What happens at the GU Medicine unit ?
You will be called to see the doctor who will ask questions about medical and sexual history before suggesting the appropriate examination and tests to be carried out.
