This clinic started in 1994 to provide antenatal care and parent education for teenagers age 17 years and younger. The philosophy of this service is to offer the younger teenager continuity of antenatal care from a small group of midwives within a non-judgemental framework. To offer prompt referral to other support services as needed - health visitor liaison, social services and counselling. The parent education class starts at 12.30 every Thursday before clinic which starts at 1.00pm and those teenagers who would rather not attend a formal class are offered one-to-one parent education with the midwife. Referral to this clinic is by the normal booking referral letter from the G.P. All G.P.’s are aware of the clinic and should the age on the letter to help identify those teenagers who would benefit from this type of service. |
