Pre-Operative clinic

Pre-Operative clinic receptionAll patients who have been booked for gynaecological surgery, including day case surgery, are invited to attend our pre-operative clinics. Your date for attendance will be given to you by our admissions officer before you leave the Outpatients Department, or will be sent out to you.

The pre-operative clinics are nurse led. The nurses working in the clinic are experienced gynaecology nurses who are able to provide the information and support you need before your admission for surgery.
The aims of this service are:

  • To provide you with verbal and written information regarding your planned surgery and your pre-operative and post operative care
  • To give you, the patient time to discuss the planned surgery and answer any questions you or your family might have
  • To involve the multidisciplinary team,e.g physiotherapists, with your care if this is needed
  • To prepare you for surgery, arranging blood tests and investigations as appropriate
  • To commence discharge planning and arrange care as necessary

The clinics are held Monday to Friday, each consultant having their own clinic.

Where we are.
There is a dedicated set of rooms allocated to the pre-operative assessment clinic. These can be found within the gynaecology outpatients department on the ground floor of the hospital.

When you attend
The nurse that you see in the pre-op clinic will check your medical history, i.e. details of previous illnesses, operations and pregnancies.
It would be helpful if you could bring with you a list of all medicines that you are currently taking. If you have any additional problems, the staff may seek advice from an anaesthetist or physician before your operation.
A few tests such as; blood pressure, urine test and sometimes a chest x-ray will need to be done.

If you need to cancel your appointment.
Please contact the Admissions Office on Tel: 708 9988 ext.1115/1116
