Visiting Out Patient Clinics

What to expect on your first visit to the outpatient clinic.
The gynaecology outpatient department is on the ground floor of the hospital and can be found by following the Acorn sign.
Your relative or friend is welcome to accompany you to the clinic if you wish. If you require an interpreter please let the staff know so that all necessary arrangements can be made before you arrive.
Your Appointment
As we have an appointment system you are asked to plan your journey so that you arrive just before your appointment time.
If you arrive too early you may not be seen before your actual appointment time. Sometimes delays do occur due to unforeseen circumstances. We will try at all times to keep you informed.

If you need to change or cancel your appointment, please let us know as soon as possible so that other arrangements can be made for you.

Telephone our Direct Line 0151 702 4080 (an answer machine is available out of hours)

On Arrival
Please report to the reception desk where the staff will check your personal details. The Doctor will take a full medical history following which you will be asked to change for a physical examination. Occasionally it may also be necessary to perform some minor tests/treatment while you are in the clinic.

If there is anything that you do not understand about your treatment, please ask the doctor or nurse to explain more fully.
Students
Student Midwives and Doctors spend some time in the hospital learning to care for women during pregnancy and with gynaecological conditions. You may be asked if you are willing to be seen by a student during your clinic visit. Whatever your decision, the standard of care you receive will not be affected.
