The aims of the clinic are:-

· To provide verbal and written information regarding the planned surgery, pre and post op care

· To give the patient time to discuss the planned surgery and answer any questions they or their family may have

· To involve the multidisciplinary team with the patients care as appropriate

· To prepare the patient for surgery, arranging blood tests and investigations as appropriate

· To commence discharge planning and arrange care as necessary

This clinic is nurse led, the nurses being experienced in gynaecology and able to meet the needs of the patients. The clinics run Monday to Friday, each consultant having their own clinic. It is envisaged that over the next few weeks all women having day care surgery will be invited to the pre operative clinic and an evening clinic will soon be available.
