This clinic is held once a month and is attended by Dr Ian Ellis, Consultant
Clinical Geneticist and Caroline Benjamin a Genetic Counsellor. The aim
of this clinic is to assess the women attending for increased risk of
developing ovarian cancer.
There is strong evidence that some ovarian cancers are due to genetic
factors and the women referred will have two or more close relatives who
have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, or if a first degree relative
eg mother developed the disease before the age of 50.
A detailed family history is taken and if a woman is found to be at increased
risk she is offered annual screening and counselling.
