The Antenatal Clinic area has been designed to allow holistic antenatal care to be given to the mother. There are 16 individual consulting rooms which are spacious and comfortable and offer complete privacy. They are attractively decorated, keeping clinical atmosphere to a minimum. All mothers attend the hospital antenatal clinic for their first booking appointment. An ultrasound scan is performed, medical and obstetric details are recorded on computer and the mother receives this information in her hand-held notes which she takes responsibility for. A well designed reception area allows for complete privacy when personal details are being given. A service for patients with hearing difficulties is available and interpreting facilities through our Link Clinic are available for those patients whose first language is not English. The clinic offers a variety of specialised care for mothers with special needs. Counselling for routine and non-routine screening tests, advice on diet, smoking and alcohol in pregnancy is given. Having a baby is a family event, partners and children are welcome to accompany the mother. The waiting areas are spacious and attractively decorated, with comfortable seating. Facilities for baby changing and feeding are available and toilets for patients with special needs are included in the ten toilets sited throughout the department. Refreshments are available in the clinic area through a service provided by the League of Friends and gentle background music promotes a relaxed atmosphere. The Antenatal Clinic services are available from Monday - Friday 0800 - 1700 hrs. |
